Asphalt should be substituted with poured rubber or loose rubber mulch to avoid playground injuries. In short, the surfaces are usually made of coloured EPDM rubber granules for aesthetics and child safety. Surfaces with coloured EPDM rubber granules are preferred for their safety and for being eco-friendly. Coloured EPDM rubber granules are preferred for their eye-catching aesthetics too. Figures, shapes, cartoons can be designed on playground surface. Lines can also be constructed to show people paths to walk on or guide them to certain areas. Half of the playground injuries result from a fall to the playground surface that can cause concussions, dislocations, broken bones and more. That’s why playground tiles play a big role for kid’s playground safety. Surface with colored EPDM rubber granules offer the perfect amount of cushioning. Poured Rubber Surfacing is a seamless rubber surface which is composed of two layers that is poured in place. The first layer is called “Wear Layer” and it is made of EPDM rubber granules. The second layer is “Cushion Layer” and it is made of crumb rubber or recycled rubber tires. The raw rubber particles are bound together with a polyurethane binder (PU binder). EPDM rubber granules are mixed, poured and bound on-site. Colored EPDM rubber surfaces are great because they’re easy to put together, fairly cheap compared to other sports surfacing and can last a long time. If glued properly with quality PU binder kids can’t rip the surface up.

SBR Outdoor Flooring If you are looking for a product that is safe, colourful and also has to be economical, Athlon SBR offers a safe solution that fits into your budget. SBR (Styrene-Butadiene-Rubber) is an environmentally friendly, granulated recycled tire material which has been used in North America for over 30 years. Primarily used for playgrounds & jogging tracks the natural black rubber granules can be coated with a coloured polyurethane. SBR granules were the first rubber product used in 1983. We now use a cost-efficient grade of SBR for filling in low areas on existing surfaces and providing fall protection on playgrounds prior to a top coat of SBR. The flooring comes in three colours green, black, and terracotta. The solution is mostly used by public gardens, parks & jogging tracks.
